Oh, get your head out of the gutter, not THAT kind of video!!! Coreman got MLT Vacations to hire me for a series of travel information videos for their 'Lifestyle Collection, featuring Romance'. I get to tell people all about how wonderful it is to book your wedding and/or honeymoon at one of these amazing beach locations. Alas, we didn't get to film on location...I had to talk about sparkling sandy beaches and beautiful blue-green oceans whilst trying not to let my teeth chatter in below-zero temps that just won't seem to go away here in Minneapolis. But hey, I did get my very own makeup session complete with airbrushed foundation and straightened hair! The amazing Jen Santoro Rotty came to the house and did me up, and she did me up right. For the Romance video.
(there you go again!) I highly recommend Jen if you ever have the need for a makeup artist, she did such an amazing job and she is a blast to boot. She was worried that I'd be all bummed losing my big hair, but actually it was quite fun to see it straightened. I think I'll be borrowing Vivian's straightener now and again to try to replicate the look. (which of course is usually a disaster when a layman tries to copy a professional, but hey, on a regular everyday basis, I'm all I've got.)
The shoot went well, Coreman had a cool little set-up complete with a camera dolly that he rigged up himself to give a little more action to a pretty static scene. As for me, it was simply lovely to do a paid on-air gig. When it's all done and up and running, I'll include a link so you can watch corporate me! Of course I can't be too corporate for long...when the camera stopped rolling I just had to flash the heavy metal salute.
home the entire day yesterday and even skipped my date with Billy Blanks to start watching the Inaugural festivities as soon as I got Sullivan on the bus. Wow, pretty amazing--I mean, what else can you say? I'm so utterly impressed with Mr. Obama, his wife Michelle and those adorable girls. Michelle Obama is totally metal--she carries herself with such grace and poise yet is so REAL. Who really knows but they sure seem like a happy family and it seems like they will raise those girls to be as 'normal' as they can. I was watching that little Sasha sitting so still throughout the speech and everything else going on and thinking of my own 7 year old boy...uh, never. Not unless I had a backpack full of cars and drawing paper which from what I gather doesn't seem to be allowed. As far as the whole Obamena-Phenomena thing goes, I can't help but be amazed that some people just don't get it. A friend on Facebook commented that he just didn't get how we all think 'the world is going to change the minute Obama gets elected...' to which I say, how can you NOT see the change already??! Just the fact that so many people cared about the election this year and came out in droves to support the new president is evident change. Heck, following the Inauguration on Facebook was what finally prompted the Coreman to join, so there's more change right there. Anyway, enough politics. Let's just say it was a happy day indeed to wake up this morning and feel like our country is in good hands for a change.
I had a fun appearance at a Mom's Expo recently for the MomsLikeMe site. Sadly the purpose of the expo was to raise money for a local mom who recently lost her battle to breast cancer, so of course that was a sad tone of the day...but it was fun to hang with Cindy who is the site manager and Rachel, one of my fellow moderators. This weekend I'll be attending a movie at the Mall of America with the MomsLikeMe crew..our job will be to pass out MLM stuff and get people interested in the site. It has been such a blast to be involved with that--actually getting PAID to do some writing, and to give my very own opinion about things. nice!
