It's been WAY too long since I've posted anything--as it is I have no idea what I'm going to write about so I guess I'll do what they say when you want to get into your creative writing---or into your deep dark psyche---just start writing!
I'm sure it's no surprise to those of you who may read my blog that I am THRILLED with the fact that Barack Obama has officially become our new Pres. I was
home the entire day yesterday and even skipped my date with Billy Blanks to start watching the Inaugural festivities as soon as I got Sullivan on the bus. Wow, pretty amazing--I mean, what else can you say? I'm so utterly impressed with Mr. Obama, his wife Michelle and those adorable girls. Michelle Obama is totally metal--she carries herself with such grace and poise yet is so REAL. Who really knows but they sure seem like a happy family and it seems like they will raise those girls to be as 'normal' as they can. I was watching that little Sasha sitting so still throughout the speech and everything else going on and thinking of my own 7 year old boy...uh, never. Not unless I had a backpack full of cars and drawing paper which from what I gather doesn't seem to be allowed. As far as the whole Obamena-Phenomena thing goes, I can't help but be amazed that some people just don't get it. A friend on Facebook commented that he just didn't get how we all think 'the world is going to change the minute Obama gets elected...' to which I say, how can you NOT see the change already??! Just the fact that so many people cared about the election this year and came out in droves to support the new president is evident change. Heck, following the Inauguration on Facebook was what finally prompted the Coreman to join, so there's more change right there. Anyway, enough politics. Let's just say it was a happy day indeed to wake up this morning and feel like our country is in good hands for a change.
Me, I'm not changing the world but I'm keeping pretty busy. Working at Hot Mama a day or two a week which is always fun. I love going in there for my fix of high fashion and shopping for it with other people's money. :-) I'm giddy with excitement that I recently got a 1K sale, which means a $50 gift card for me as a sort of 'bonus'. Woo hoo! Needless to say the biggest challange about working in that place is not spending my entire paycheck. I'm trying to hold out now for some spring stuff...which is already starting to arrive. It is a bit cruel to taunt us Minnesotans with things that make us dream of warmer weather, especially when we're being frozen solid in -20 temperatures....but alas, the cold cruel world of retail. Hurts so good!
I had a fun appearance at a Mom's Expo recently for the MomsLikeMe site. Sadly the purpose of the expo was to raise money for a local mom who recently lost her battle to breast cancer, so of course that was a sad tone of the day...but it was fun to hang with Cindy who is the site manager and Rachel, one of my fellow moderators. This weekend I'll be attending a movie at the Mall of America with the MomsLikeMe crew..our job will be to pass out MLM stuff and get people interested in the site. It has been such a blast to be involved with that--actually getting PAID to do some writing, and to give my very own opinion about things. nice!
Well, back to work around here...work being some memorization of lines and writing of music that will be part of some web videos for MLT Vacations' travel site. Wow, I'll officially be on YouTube...and not just from a home movie! I'm actually getting paid for this job too, which is quite exciting. It seems many of my creative stuff ends up being pro bono, so I totally feel like a professional now. Well, I can pretend at least. Hey, I'll even have a real make-up artist for the filming! I think I'm more excited about that than anything. I'm hoping she'll give me some good tips....
